Hamilton College

Hamilton’s beautiful campus is located in Clinton, New York approximately 90 minutes from Albany and an hour away from Syracuse. Set on a hill, Hamilton is home to approximately 1,850 students. A private liberal arts college, Hamilton was founded in 1793. Hamilton is known for its small classes and dedicated professors.

Visitor Information: Tour Hamilton

Stay: Close to campus, check into the Arbor Inn a charming bed and breakfasts. In Utica, you’ll find a Best Western and Hampton Inn. One parent, with a current student, always stays in nearby Verona at La Quinta as they allow dogs. She states: “My son often requests a visit from our yellow lab. Hamilton has a beautiful campus for walking the dog.” Located on Rt 840 and minutes from the NYS Thruway Towne Place Suites in New Hartford provides easy access to Hamilton.

Coffee: Utica Coffee Roasting House is a small batch roaster serving high quality coffee. If you are a Dunkin Donuts fan, there is one about a mile from campus.

Breakfast: Breakfast at Tiffany and Charlie’s Place are your typical diners serving pancakes and eggs. In New Hartford, there are lots of breakfast specials at Carmella’s Cafe.

Lunch: Mexican dishes are the draw at 8 Fresh. Students love the pizza and subs at Alteri's and Primo Pizza. In New Hartford, head to Peter’s Cornucopia serving organic salads, sandwiches and soups. Hamilton students feel lucky to have farm to table Nola’s in their small town, featuring a seasonal menu and an excellent Sunday brunch. 

Dinner

 

Casual: In New Hartford, Grapevine  is popular for delicious Mediterranean cuisine. Closer to campus, Alteri’s is well liked by students for good Italian food and a fun night out. Enjoy Greek food at Symeon’s located in Yorkville.

 

A Step Up: When parents are in town reservations are hard to come by at Nola’s, the best option in Clinton. In New Hartford, top choices are Mitsuba for sushi and Georgio’s Village Cafe for Italian. Its worth the 20 or so minute drive to dine at The Tailor and the Cook housed in a circa 1800’s building in Utica. Known for having some of the best food in the area, make your reservation well in advance of your visit. The Black Stallion, located on Route 5 in Vernon is also a good choice.

Local Attractions: Clinton is a small town and there’s not that much to do after seeing the school. Going to The Clinton Cider Mill is a nice way to end your visit. They are open everyday from Labor Day till Thanksgiving and offer the most amazing donuts and cider.  One hour away, you can drive to the Adirondack Park. Trails are open during the day for walking and hiking. You can find more trail information here.
