Visitor Information: Tour Hamilton

Stay: Close to campus, check into the Arbor Inn or The Artful Lodger, two charming bed and breakfasts. In Utica, you’ll find a Best Western and Hampton Inn. One parent, with a current student, always stays in nearby Verona at La Quinta as they allow dogs. She states: “My son often requests a visit from our yellow lab. Hamilton has a beautiful campus for walking the dog.”

Coffee: Utica Coffee Roasting House is a small batch roaster serving high quality coffee. If you are a Dunkin Donuts fan, there is one about a mile from campus.

Breakfast: Breakfast at Tiffany and Charlie’s Place are your typical diners serving pancakes and eggs. In New Hartford, there are lots of breakfast specials at Carmella’s Cafe.

Lunch: Mexican dishes are the draw at 8 Fresh. Students love the pizza and subs at Primo Pizza. In New Hartford, head to Peter’s Cornucopia serving organic salads, sandwiches and soups. Hamilton students feel lucky to have farm to table Nola’s in their small town, featuring a seasonal menu and an excellent Sunday brunch.

Dinner

Casual: In New Hartford, Grapevine  is popular for delicious Mediterranean cuisine. Closer to campus, Alteri’s is well liked by students for good Italian food and a fun night out. Dine in a quaint historic home right on the green in Clinton at Across the Row Bistro offering eclectic American fare.

A Step Up: When parents are in town reservations are hard to come by at Nola’s, the best option in Clinton. In New Hartford, top choices are Mitsuba for sushi and Georgio’s Village Cafe for Italian. Its worth the 20 or so minute drive to dine at The Tailor and the Cook housed in a circa 1800’s building in Utica. Known for having some of the best food in the area, make your reservation well in advance of your visit.

Local Attractions: Clinton is a small town and there’s not that much to do after seeing the school. Going to The Clinton Cider Mill is a nice way to end your visit. They are open everyday from Labor Day till Thanksgiving and offer the most amazing donuts and cider.  One hour away, you can drive to the Adirondack Park. Trails are open during the day for walking and hiking. You can find more trail information here.

The freshman dorms are amazing!!! I lived in Wertimer and loved it. Friends of mine lived in Dunham and were happy there too. Really what makes a school are the people. The students here are interesting, supportive and smart.
— Zoe
If you can stand cold weather, Hamilton is awesome. It’s just cold nine months out of the year.
— James
Hamilton is a small school with caring and approachable faculty and advisors. There is a good hockey team and other competitive NESCAC teams (New England Athletic Conference).
